HR&CE official held for taking bribe

Trichy: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday arrested an executive officer with the HR&CE department for demanding and accepting a bribe of 3,000 to clear a proposal for renovating a temple in Perambalur.
DVAC said N Sivanesan, hailing from Sengunam in Perambalur district, approached G Govindaraj, executive officer of Madana Gopala Swamy temple, seeking permission to renovate a Siva temple. Govindaraj demanded a bribe of 3,000 to forward the proposal to Chennai.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, Sivanesan lodged a complaint with DVAC. DSP K S Hemachitra instructed Sivanesan to hand over chemical-laced currency notes to Govindaraj. They caught Govindaraj red-handed when he received the money.
