Journalist injured in attack by duo over personal dispute

Trichy: A journalist of a regional news channel was assaulted by a duo near Tiruvarur on Monday over a personal dispute.Police said that on Monday, around 11.30pm, two men came to the house of journalist B Haja Maideen, 37, in Muthupet, Tiruvarur district. They called him outside, after which an argument broke out between them. One of them suddenly attacked Maideen with a bottle.In a statement issued by Tiruvarur police on the directions of superintendent of police Karun Garad, Maideen was in a relationship with a woman known to a person named Abbas, who was acquainted with the accused - A Abdul Basith and Sabeer Ahamed.Muthupettai police reached the spot after receiving information and initiated an investigation. They arrested Basith, 20. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.The injured Maideen is currently receiving treatment at the Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital.
