MP calls out cop ‘inaction’ over BJP leader’s sexist remarks
Karur: Congress MP S Jothimani on Monday termed as worrying the police ‘inaction' even ten days after a complaint was filed against BJP's Karur district president for a sexist remark against her. "If this is the situation with a woman MP's complaint, then how will ordinary women who face such issues come forward to lodge complaints. I'm being told that Karur district BJP president's phone is switched off and he is on the run. It is disheartening to hear such responses. Police should form a special team or conduct a thorough search and arrest him," she said.

The BJP district president was booked by Karur town police for allegedly using derogatory terms against Jothimani during a demonstration organised by BJP near Head Post Office in the town on Feb 10. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Congress district president N Ramesh."It is not just us who have lodged a complaint; many alliance members from different parts of the district and the country have also done so. Complaints have been submitted to Women's Rights Commission, district authorities, TN DGP's office, and others across the country. MPs and leaders from various parties have also filed complaints. I don't know whether police have refrained from arresting him to give him time to seek anticipatory bail. If that is the case, I will take the matter to court and argue it myself. This will be a fight not just for me, but for all women," she added.
