Now pay traffic fine cashless in Trichy

TRICHY: The Trichy city police on Monday launched a cashless payment system to help traffic violators pay fine without hassles. Traffic violators could now pay fine by swiping their debit card or credit cards on the card swiping machines.
The police department launched the system in collaboration the State Bank of India (SBI).
During the inauguration function, city police commissioner A Amalraj said, “The main aim of coming up with the new system is to enable traffic violators pay the fine without any hassle and to ensure that the people don’t complain against police.”
Though the traffic violators could pay the spot fine in cash also for some time, it would be made a complete e-transfer process in due course.
Police said they had come up with a proposal to introduce a single machine for both e-challan and e-transfer, which is now done through two separate machines.
At present, 30 swiping machines have been given to police personnel across the city.
Drunken driving cases, though, might not be included in this new system as police said for this particular violation, violators would be asked to pay the fine in court.
Till June 3, traffic violators in Trichy were able to pay fine in cash either on the spot or in court. In 2017 alone, the total fine amount collected by the police in Trichy was almost Rs 3 crore, while this year so far, the total collected amount is a little over Rs 1.5 crore.
