Gehlot slams BJP’s ‘misinformation’ in Kanhaiya Lal case

Gehlot slams BJP’s ‘misinformation’ in Kanhaiya Lal case
Udaipur: Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday lashed out at the BJP for spreading “misinformation” about the infamous Kanhaiya Lal beheading case of June 2022.
Gehlot, along with Congress office bearers and workers from eight Assembly segments of the Udaipur Lok Sabha constituency, was in the city for party candidate Tarachand Meena’s filing of nomination papers on Saturday.

The nomination rally was marked by two highlights: Gehlot levelling several accusations against BJP—especially about the beheading case, and Meena accusing his rival BJP candidate Mannalal Rawat of making sarcastic remarks against the Rawat community.
Gehlot spoke about Meena’s earlier tenure as a district collector during which he worked for the development of tribal areas in Udaipur. Gehlot emphasized Rajasthan’s political stability under Congress govt at a time when the “dictatorial government at the Centre” toppled governments in other states including Madhya Pradesh. “Still, in Rajasthan, we survived for 5 years because of the love of the people of the state,” he said.
Gehlot denounced what he called the BJP’s misinformation campaign on the beheading of Kanhaiya Lal by extremists in Udaipur. “When Kanhaiya Lal was murdered, BJP leaders had gone to attend the party’s meeting in Hyderabad. I came to Udaipur with the DGP, went to Kanhaiya Lal’s house and met his children. We gave them Rs 50 lakh and a government job,” he said, adding that both the accused were caught within two hours. “Later, NIA took over the investigation. If the case was with us, the accused would have been hanged by now,” Gehlot claimed.
“The BJP spread lies and said that we gave Rs 50 lakh to a Muslim (in Jaipur) and gave only Rs 5 lakh to Kanhaiya Lal’s family. This is not true,” Gehlot said.
