65-year-old woman mowed down on Ajwa Road
Vadodara: A 65-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run on Ajwa Road on Sunday after a speeding car struck her, dragged her for a few feet, with CCTV footage later showing suspected foreign nationals stepping out of the vehicle.
The victim, Sharda Bhaliya, was walking near Bhagyalaxmi Society when the car hit her from behind at high speed. The force of the impact dragged her along the road, leaving her critically injured.
Passersby rushed Bhaliya to a nearby hospital but doctors declared her dead.
Bapod police registered a case against unidentified persons and launched a search for the vehicle and its occupants.
Investigators said CCTV footage from the area shows what appears to be a few young foreign nationals stepping out of the car after the accident, providing a crucial lead in the case. Police are analysing the footage and working to identify and trace those involved.
