Karamsad man gets 50months in jail

Vadodara: A 45-year-old man from Karamsad was sentenced to 50 months imprisonment for not paying maintenance amount of Rs 12.5 lakh to his wife, who is living with her parents in Tarsali.
Kamini Patel had approached a family court here in December 2017 after her husband Viral Patel failed to pay the maintenance amount of Rs 25,000 per month which the court had ordered in November 2017.The court had ordered Viral the amount retrospectively from October 2013 within a month’s time. But as Viral failed to pay the maintenance money, Kamini told the court that Viral be ordered to pay the money immediately and if he is not able to do so, then money be paid from his fixed assets.
During the hearing of Kamini’s second plea, Viral did not appear before the court even after several notices and warrants were issued against him. Finally, the court decided to take the matter further without allowing Viral more time. Based on Kamini’s arguments, the court ordered that Viral be jailed for every month for which he failed to pay the maintenance amount.
The family court ordered that an arrest warrant along with a copy of the order be sent to superintendent of police of Anand district.
