VADODARA: Massive sixes, deafening music and a nail-biting finish the Slam Bang T-10 cricket tournament organised at Reliance Stadium had everything that a T20 tournament has. And, the tournament proved to be a major hit among the corporate teams.
Two teams, Media XI and Gujarat Refinery clashed in the final on Sunday and the latter emerged winners. The Gujarat Refinery team beat Media XI comfortably as it reached its target in the eighth over.
Batting first, Media XI captained by Farid Khan scored 112 runs in its 10-over quota.
Minhaz Patel, who blasted 41 runs off nine balls, was the highest scorer. Gujarat Refinery, however, outplayed Media XI and reached the target by losing just three wickets.
Rafiq Patel of Gujarat Refinery bagged three wickets and won man of the match award. Vivek Patel, also of Gujarat Refinery bagged the best batsman of the tournament award for scoring 120 runs, while Rafiq got best bowler's award for picking up six wickets from three matches.
"We got a very good response from the teams this time. All the teams are eager to participate next year too. This tournament was organised to encourage cricket and also as a form of entertainment," said Shatrunjay Gaekwad, who had organised the tourney along with cricketer Miten Shah.
Teams like Reliance, IOC, Citibank, Gujarat Refinery, U-Nine XI, HDFC, Philips, Media XI and others took part in the tournament. Media XI, Reliance, Gujarat Refinery and U-Nine XI were the semi-finalists.
The champion team was awarded Rs 21,000 while the runners-up were handed a cheque of Rs 10,000. The audience, mostly relatives and friends of the participants, enjoyed the tournament and few even danced to the DJ's music.
In this version of the game, batsmen hitting four were awarded six runs and those hitting six were given eight runs. Three consecutive fours fetched the team 20 runs and three consecutive sixes fetched 30 runs.
