VADODARA: The Vadodara Green Run Race Against Pollution received an overwhelming response with over 9,000 people taking part in it. Artists, academicians, corporate executives, professionals, doctors, youngsters, homemakers, senior citizens as well as physically challenged participated in the first of its kind marathon in the city, organised to spread the message of environment protection.

A green anthem composed by Radio Mirchi on the occasion was played when the event concluded. People sang the anthem and also danced to the songs at the music show hosted in the end. The marathon was organised by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) as part of its golden jubilee celebration in association with Radio Mirchi.
The 10-km marathon was flagged off by police commissioner Rakesh Asthana from Kamatibaugh and it culminated at Indian Oil's Gujarat Refinery Stadium. M S University's chancellor Mrunalini Devi Puar and Gujarat Refinery's executive director A S Basu were also present.
Most participants walked the 10-km stretch with flags, banners and green balloons. Even members from Rambo Circus participated and performed many stunts. A two-year-old girl dressed in green leaves caught the attention of the participants.
The marathon was divided into five categories open, children, housewives, senior citizens and physically challenged. The first prize winners were Upendra Parmar (open category),Laxmi Lour (housewives) and Cheiran Sakariya (senior citizens). Prizes were also given for best slogans, to best cheering team and cool schools.
