Varanasi: In a joint operation of STF and Sigra police, a murder accused Arya alias Akash Saroj alias Tamatar who carried a reward of Rs 20,000 was arrested on Monday evening.
He was involved in the murder of BJP worker Pashupatinath Singh, who was beaten to death by a mob in Jai Prakash Nagar locality in Sigra area on October 12.
According to reports, acting on a tip off the police caught him near Cantonment bus stand.

He was booked under sections 147, 148, 149, 504, 506, 307 and 302 of IPC.
During interrogation, he said that he is an active member of a group known as 307. He along with other member of the group made fatal attacks on Singh and his son Raj Kumar Singh after a brawl near the liquor shop. Raj Kumar also sustained injuries.
According to police, on the complaint of Singh’s son Rudresh Kumar Singh, a named FIR against 17 including Manu Saroj, Rahul Saroj, Abhishek, Anup Saroj, Dinesh Pal, Suresh Saroj, Ganesh, Aryan Saroj, Shyam Babu, Suraj, Vishal Rajbhar, Vikas Rajbhar, Manish Pandey, Pavan, Sahil, Sandeep Gupta and Ramesh was lodged with Sigra police on the charges of rioting, murder, attempt to murder and 7 criminal law (amendment) act.
Taking serious note of the incident, the commissioner police A Satish Ganesh had suspended nine policemen including the Nagar Nigam outpost in-charge for performing laxity in duty. So far 12 of 17 accused have been arrested in this connection.
Meanwhile, A 60-year-old pilgrim Sonawati, a resident of Janakpur, sustained burns after her sari caught fire while performing puja by lighting a diya at Darbhanga Ghat on Tuesday.
The local residents took her to a local hospital for treatment.
