VARANASI: A loot bid was foiled by a courageous trader in Lahurabir area under Chetganj police on Wednesday evening. It also enabled the police to work out a case of arms theft.
According to reports, Vishal Kapoor, a trader of Mahamandal Nagar area under Chetganj police station, was waiting for an auto to go to the railway station on Wednesday evening when two masked miscreants on a motorcycle tried to rob him.
They also tried to terrorise Kapoor at gun-point. But, the trader raised an alarm and also opposed their bid. Trapped, the miscreants opened fire and fled from the scene, leaving their motorcycle and revolver behind.
Receiving the information of the incident, the Chetganj police arrived at the incident site and recovered the revolver and the motorcycle. During investigation, the police found that the revolver belonged to Dr Nitish Kumar of Jaunpur district. It had been stolen from his house in 2004. The doctor had lodged an FIR with the Jaunpur police in that connection.
