VARANASI: In a major haul, the GRP Cantonment railway station arrested a notorious lady gangster and her accomplices who had targeted the passengers in air-conditioned compartments of prominent trains.
According to inspector (GRP) BN Dubey, on the basis of a complaint of a passenger travelling in B2 AC bogey of Shivganga Express, GRP personnel arrested Sangeeta Agrawal and her son Kishan on Saturday evening.

Later, two other accomplices of Agrawal- Devanand Shah and Bab Dom- were also arrested by the GRP personnel.
They recovered Rs 10,000, four briefcases and 475 gram of intoxicants from their possession. During investigation, it was found that Agrawal and her son had boarded the train on reservation ticket in the AC compartment.
Producing the arrested woman and her accomplices before the reporters on Sunday, Dubey said she hailed from Mau district. Agrawal was married to a man in Ashapur under Sarnath police station area here in 1989. But, she left her husband in 1990.
She joined hands with Mau-based criminal Mushir, after which they looted gems and precious stones worth over Rs 1.5 crore of a trader in 2006. In a joint operation of STF and GRP, Agrawal, Mushir and Kishan were arrested in Gorakhpur earlier and the looted articles were also recovered from their possession.
But, after two months of her arrest, she succeeded in coming out of jail, she disclosed. Then Kishan was arrested in Barabanki with Rs 1.67 lakh. He had come out of jail on September 9 last. After his release, Agrawal and her gang members became active again on prominent trains, especially between Varanasi and Delhi.
The police found that despite having no means of earning a livelihood, Agrawal had taken a flat on rent in the posh Sant Raghuvar Nagar Colony under Sigra police station and several luxury items were also present at her residence. The arrested members of Agrawal gang were sent to jail after being produced before the court.
