Tirupati: Chittoor police arrested the victim's father and his accomplice in a case of
honour killing on Wednesday. The accused were identified as S Shaukat Ali (56) and his relative Mohammed Basha (29).
According to Chittoor SP VN Manikanta Chandol, Shaukat was angry with his daughter Yasmin for getting married against his wishes, and felt that her marriage brought disrepute to the family. He decided kill his daughter and sought the support of his relatives, Basha and Abdul Kalam.
As per plan, Shaukat invited his daughter to come home in the pretext of holding talks with her. On April 13, he took her to an isolated spot at Mopakshi cross near Chittoor and strangulated her to death with a rope. Basha and Kalam helped him in shifting Yasmin's body to his house in Balaji Nagar locality to make it look like a suicide.
Yasmin's mother lodged a complaint at Chittoor II town police station, following which circle inspector D Nettikantaiah and his team arrested Shaukat and Mohammed while they were on the run. Police have laid a hunt for the third accused, Abdul Kalam, who is still absconding.
