Vijayawada: Narasaraopet police took actor and filmmaker
Posani Krishna Murali into custody on a PT (Prisoner Transit) warrant from Rajampet sub-jail on Monday. He was arrested following a complaint filed by Jana Sena leaders, alleging that he made objectionable remarks against deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan.
Based on the complaint, Narasaraopet police booked Posani under several BNS Sections and Section 67 of the IT Act.
Posani was a remand prisoner in Rajampet for the past four days, following his earlier arrest in Hyderabad by Annamayya district. Last week, he was taken into custody by Hyderabad police based on a case registered at Obulavaripalle police station in Kadapa district. The complaint, filed by Jana Sena leader Jogineni Mani, accused Posani of making derogatory and inflammatory remarks against opposition leaders, including Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh during the previous YSRCP govt. Following his arrest in Hyderabad, he was produced in Rajampet court, which remanded him to judicial custody and sent him to Rajampet sub-jail.
On Monday, a team led by Narasaraopet CI Hyma Rao reached Rajampet sub-jail with a PT warrant and conducted a medical examination before taking Posani into custody. He was subsequently shifted to Narasaraopet, where he will be produced before the local court. The court will decide whether he will remain in Narasaraopet sub-jail or be sent back to Rajampet.
Reportedly, Posani faces around 17 cases across the state for his controversial statements. Several police teams from different regions are likely to seek custody for further legal action.
Meanwhile, Posani was briefly hospitalised on Saturday after he complained of chest pain in Rajampet sub-jail. He was initially taken to a govt hospital, and later to Kadapa RIMS for further evaluation. However, doctors found no serious health issues, confirming that he was medically stable. Following this, he was shifted back to Rajampet sub-jail.
With Posani now in Narasaraopet police custody, the case is expected to gain further attention. Security has been tightened in Narasaraopet to prevent any protests or disruptions.
