Royal Enfield rides into Andhra Pradesh with Rs 2,200-crore manufacturing hub near Tirupati
VIJAYAWADA: In one of the biggest industrial investments secured by Andhra Pradesh in recent years, iconic motorcycle maker Royal Enfield has chosen the state for a massive Rs 2,200-crore manufacturing expansion project, signalling a major boost to AP’s ambitions of emerging as a national automobile and advanced manufacturing hub. The company will establish a sprawling integrated manufacturing facility and vendor park at Satyavedu in Tirupati district, close to the Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border, in what will be Royal Enfield’s first major manufacturing expansion outside Tamil Nadu since the company’s inception in 1901. Approved by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the project is expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs while adding nearly 9 lakh units to Royal Enfield’s annual production capacity. The state govt has allotted 267 acres for the project in Vanelluru and Rallakuppam villages of Satyavedu mandal. Apart from the core manufacturing facility, the project will also feature a dedicated vendor park in the first phase itself, paving the way for a large ancillary industrial ecosystem around the plant. The Royal Enfield investment is being seen as a major outcome of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s aggressive push to position Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for global manufacturing investments and IT minister Nara Lokesh’s sustained efforts to attract marquee companies through investor outreach and fast-track clearances.
Industry circles say the project reflects growing investor confidence in the state’s policy stability, infrastructure expansion and speed of decision-making under the present leadership.Industry observers say the decision by Royal Enfield — one of India’s most recognisable premium motorcycle brands — is a strong endorsement of Andhra Pradesh’s industrial ecosystem and its emergence as a serious contender in the automobile manufacturing sector. The project will be developed in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for completion by 2029 and the second phase targeted by 2032. Education, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh described the investment as a landmark moment for Andhra Pradesh’s manufacturing sector. “Royal Enfield is far more than a motorcycle brand — it is a timeless symbol of heritage, craftsmanship and enduring quality. We are proud to welcome this iconic company to Andhra Pradesh. This investment strongly validates Andhra Pradesh’s speed of doing business, robust infrastructure ecosystem and our commitment to becoming a leading manufacturing destination in India,” Lokesh said. He said the vendor ecosystem and ancillary industries expected to emerge around the project would significantly strengthen the state’s vision of building a globally competitive automobile manufacturing cluster. "5,000 jobs, vendor ecosystem and 9 lakh-unit capacity boost as iconic bike maker picks AP for its first major expansion outside Tamil Nadu," said IT and HRD minister Nara Lokesh. The investment is expected to further accelerate industrialisation in south Andhra Pradesh, with the state already attracting major investments across sectors such as mobility, electronics, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.
