Rajahmundry: West Godavari police, led by SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi, registered significant achievements in cracking complicated cases in the district in the year gone by. One of the most sensational cases cracked by Asmi's team was the one where a body was delivered in a parcel to a woman in Yandagandi village of Undi mandal. Eleven teams comprising 100 police personnel spent six sleepless nights to solve the case.
Under Palakollu police station limits, an old woman was raped and killed. Police arrested the two accused in quick time. At Tadepalligudem, police arrested an accused who robbed and killed a woman who stayed alone.
As far as crime rate is concerned, 6,173 cases were reported in 2024 against 6,022 in 2023. Fifteen murder cases were registered in 2024, including a culpable homicide and three murder for gain cases, besides four robbery and two dacoity cases. The number of theft cases decreased from 483 in 2023 to 473 in 2024. As far as property loss and recovery was concerned, Rs 6.78 crore was stolen, out of which police managed to recover Rs 3.05 crore (45 percent). As many as 93 Pocso cases were registered in 2024 against 91 cases in the previous year. As many as 768 cases of crimes against women were registered in 2024, as against 797 in the previous year. In 2024, 212 persons were killed in road accidents.
Asmi also led his forces in shifting people during the devastating floods in Budameru and Godavari. Intensified vigil through drone cameras at Peru Palem beach also helped in reducing the number of drowning deaths to three.
