VISAKHAPATNAM: A 30-year-old woman gave birth to a baby in a leaking labour room of a PHC at Devarapalli in Anakapalli district on Wednesday.
Hospital staff put buckets and other utensils to address the leakage from the roof as the doctor and nurses went about their job to ensure that the delivery went fine.
Both mother and child are doing well. The woman came to the primary health centre complaining of labour pain.
The Devarapalli PHC has two doctors and three nurses, besides other staff.
The staff put the buckets and other utensils in when the roof was leaking with rainwater. “The PHC staff went out of their way to ensure that the woman had a normal delivery despite the adverse conditions,” arelative of the woman said. District medical and health officer Dr Hemanth Kumar said the repair work of the labour room roof was left incomplete by the contractor. “He started the work but left abruptly leaving behind the incomplete construction.
The roads and buildings department is taking up the repair work,” he said,adding that Rs 30 lakh has been sanctioned for the repair works.
