City skaters win medals in international contest

VISAKHAPATNAM: Half a dozen skaters from the city have won medals and acclaims in roller skating at the 17th Asian Roller Skating Championship that was recently held in China.
The 17th Asian Roller Skating Championship concluded on October 29 at Lishui, China, and 13 countries had participated including six skaters from the port city. The city participants were in the age group of 13-19 years (junior category) and below 13 years (cadet category).
The skaters from Vizag who won in various categories included R Arun and Farheen, T Visweswar Rao, Priyam Tated, AB Sahith and Riya Saboo.Their coaches included A Pawan Kumar and P Satyanarayana.
Maehndra Tated, general secretary of Shivaji Park Skating Association, said, "Among the participants, R Arun and Farheen both won bronze and silver in Junior Pair Skating and Junior Couple Dance respectively, which are forms of artistic skating. T Visweswar Rao got the Junior Figure silver medal, while Priyam Tated got the Cadet Free Skating silver medal. AB Sahith was also awarded Cadet Figure silver medal, while Riya Saboo got fourth rank in Cadet Free Style.
Priyam Tated also recently won the gold medal at Manila at Asian Open Figure Skating Championship held at Phillipines in August 2016 besides winning three other silver and bronze medals in international championships. President of Andhra Pradesh Roller Skating Association (APRSA) Sudhakar Reddy, general secretary of APRSA Bhagiradh Daditch and president VDRSA Prasanna Kumar congratulated the skaters.
"After the return of the participants from China, we met MLA of Vizag East Velagapudi Ramakrishna, who assured us that he would speak to the GVMC commissioner regarding improvement of skating rink facility in the city," said the general secretary.
