Visakhapatnam: A fresh low-pressure area (LPA) has formed over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts. This will trigger heavy rains at isolated places over north coastal
Andhra Pradesh comprising West Godavari, East Godavari, Kakinada, Konaseema, Eluru, Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, ASR, Manyam and Srikakulam districts and few places in NTR and Krishna districts of south coastal Andhra Pradesh on Friday.
Parts of the coastal Andhra Pradesh experienced heavy rains on Thursday, informed the weathermen. The heavy rains in the upper catchment areas of the Godavari led to water inflows. The water levels stood at 11.6 feet at Dowleswaram in East Godavari district at 5 pm on Thursday and more than 9.6 lakh cusecs of water was being released into the Bay of Bengal from the SAC barrage. The water level at SAC Barrage has been steadily increasing.
The IMD forecast that isolated places in north coastal AP and Yanam will experience heavy rains on Saturday (Sept 7) and few parts of ASR, Manyam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam will experience heavy rains on Sunday (Sept 8). Strong surface winds with speed 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and Rayalaseema regions from Sept 6 to 8.
