Man killed after bar brawl

Needless interference in a bar brawl proved costly for a techie from Vizag. Sailesh Varma (39) of Subbalakshmi Nagar was killed by a group of youngsters in the wee hours of Tuesday while he was returning home from a watering hole near the GVMC office here.

According to the police, the incident took place between 12.30am and 1am on Tuesday when B Uday Kumar (24), an intermediate dropout working in a private company, hit Varma on the head with a big stone at Gandhi statue near GVMC as revenge for Varma's interference in his tussle with the bar management.

Varma died on the spot and his body has been sent to the King George Hospital for autopsy.
Uday Kumar had gone to a bar in a hotel near GVMC along with four other friends on Monday night but after taking alcohol tried to quietly slip out without paying the bill. While Kumar's friends escaped from there, the security staff apprehended Uday Kumar while he was trying to escape. Even as the bar staff insisted Kumar cough up the money, Varma, who was also having a few drinks at the bar, reportedly walked up to the accused and kicked him. Kumar called up his friends, who returned to the hotel and settled the matter with the managaement. Meanwhile, Varma also left the bar and was waiting at the Gandhi statue near GVMC office for transportation to return home when Kumar saw him. He told his friends about the bar incident and the group of irate youngsters roughed Kumar up.
As the argument heated up, Uday hit Varma on the head with a stone and the group fled the scene. The passengers at the bus stop and others in the area informed the police. Two Town CI G Govinda Rao nabbed the accused and registered a case.
