VISAKHAPATNAM: State health secretary L V Subramanyam visited King George Hospital (KGH) on Tuesday and inaugurated the dialysis unit at the nephrology department of the super speciality block. After a tour of various wards and blocks, the health secretary also held a meeting with the heads of various departments and senior doctors in the medical superintendent's office.
"The dialysis machine at the nephrology ward for patients requiring haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis was donated by B Braun Medical Company as part of their corporate social responsibility," said KGH medical superintendent Dr M Madhusudana Babu. "Two more dialysis machines are awaited. A 64 KV generator was also inaugurated at the super-speciality block. The health secretary also enquired about the staff shortage and contract workers and said new staff would be recruited soon."
Further, according to hospital sources, the health secretary also pointed to the importance of doctors from different departments publishing medical research and academic works in prominent journals as it's one of the criteria for promotions of faculty as per the Medical Council of India (MCI) norms. He also asked the Andhra Medical College and KGH doctors to work as a single unit and sort out internal issues.
Engineers from the AP Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMSIDC) also met the health secretary regarding the release of funds to complete the civil works of the super-speciality block in the next three months.
Along with collector Solomon Arokiaraj, state director of medical education (DME) G Santa Rao, KGH medical superintendent Dr Madhusudana Babu, Andhra Medical College principal S V Kumar and resident medical officers (RMOs) and other officials, the health secretary visited various other blocks including the new casualty block, trauma ward, diagnostic services, departments of gastroenterology and endoscopy.
