VISAKHAPATNAM: After over three months of extensive search, Vizag police on Saturday arrested a woman police sub-inspector and another person from Odisha in connection with an attempt to murder case. The police have been on the job to nab the sub-inspector's sister, who is a judge of junior civil judge court and metropolitan magistrate for her alleged involvement in the case.
The arrested duo has been identified as G Nagamani, attached with the crime wing of Anandapuram police station in Vizag city and Appala Reddy, a car driver. So far, the police arrested ten people for their involvement in an attack on a real-estate businessman, P Rajesh, in Vizag city.
It may be recalled that two unidentified persons on a bike tried to eliminate the Maharani Peta resident by attacking him with an iron hammer under MR Peta police station limits in Vizag city on June 18. However, he survived he attack.
The MR Peta police led by police inspector G Soma Sekhar took up the investigation and after a painstaking inquiry they identified the bike, which was used by the attackers. Based on the single clue, they have investigated the case and they have nabbed eight persons, including a police constable Pramod Kumar.
The arrest of Pramod Kumar led to further investigation into the case and the police have found the role of Judge Vijayalakshmi and her sister G Nagamani (sub-inspector) and Appala Reddy. They have included the names of Vijayalakshmi and Nagamani as accused persons in the case in the remand report.
Rajesh was a known associate of the magistrate and her sister. Both the sisters and their driver Reddy absconded after the attack on Rajesh. There were no financial transactions and land disputes between the victim and the sisters. The victim had allegedly abused the sisters a few months ago and that was the main reason they developed a grudge against him, the police added.
During the interrogation, constable Pramod Kumar and another accused Tarun Kumar had confessed that they were asked to attack Rajesh, so they had arranged a supari gang by paying over Rs 30,000 to attack Rajesh.
