HYDERABAD: Last year wasn''t very good for Prabhjot Singh. He was one of the failures in India’s botched Athens Olympics campaign and he even lost the confidence of national coach Gerhard Rach, not playing for the National team since the Olympics.

Same has been the case with the likes of Baljit Singh Saini and Baljit Singh Dhillon, who were also discarded.
Given a chance in the Premier Hockey League, all three showed that they still have something left in them, helping Sher-e-Jallandhar ground Bangalore Hi-Fliers in a Premier Division match at the Gachibowli Stadium here on Saturday.

In a forward line that includes players who were the cynosure of all Indian eyes just a year back, Prabhjot shone while Dhillon put their plans in motion. Saini pulled off two superb saves that kept Sher-e-Jallandhar on course to victory.

Prabhjot scored a gem of a goal off a reverse hit after Arjun Halappa had negated Dhillons 15th minute penalty corner conversion by converting a stroke for the Bangalore team. That in the end proved the match-winner as the two teams missed a number of sitters in the second session of this fast-paced high-quality match.

Delhi dazzle again

Delhi Dazzlers beat Bengal Tigers 3-1 to go atop the table with six points in the First Division. Strong contenders Chandigarh Dynamos, meawhile, opened their campaign with drag-flicker Jugraj Singh contributing a goal in an easy 3-0 verdict against Lucknow Nawabs in the day’s second match.

For Delhi, Yoginder Gulia shot from the top of the circle off a cross by Amit to put them ahead in the 20th minute. Skipper Anurag Raghuvanshi made it 2-0 with a fine drag-flick off their third short-corner. And then came Navbir’s goal. Bengal’s consolation goal was scored by Hardeep Singh off their first penalty corner.
