Poll funds: 101 candidates disqualified by EC

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The election commission has disqualified 101 persons who contested the last assembly and LS elections for not submitting their election expenditure.
The list of disqualified candidates, who contested as independents and namesakes in the elections, has been sent to all returning officers and assistant returning officers for their reference.
All of them have been banned from contesting for three years, till 2017 in some cases and till 2019 in other cases Section 77 of the Representation of People Act 1951 stipulates that every can didate should keep an account of all expenditure in connec tion with election from the da te of declaration to the date of results and lodge an account of hisher election expenses, a true copy of the account kept within 30 days of completing the election process.
