Akhilesh Yadav seeks record turnout in UP poll finale

LUCKNOW: With an appeal to ensure a record-breaking voter turnout in the seventh and final phase of UP polls slated to be held on Monday, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said victory of the SP and alliance candidates will guarantee that rights, opportunities and dignity of one and all is well protected.
“Every section of the society has been disrespected and harassed by faulty policies of the BJP and people have not forgotten that. In the seventh phase, I call upon the electorate to vote in large numbers to ensure that a government of their choice is formed. I can assure that the victory of SP and its alliance partners will mean that rights, opportunities and dignity of every individual is well protected,” he said.
He said death of over 700 farmers during the agitation against the black farm laws and disrespect handed out to jobless youths who raised their voice against discrepancies in selection policy has been unforgettable. “Dalits, backwards, minorities and deprived were subjected to repeated humiliation by those in power. Police cases and lathi-charge was the response to any democratic attempt to raise one’s voice during the BJP regime. It reminded people of atrocities that were committed on the common man during the British rule. People have not forgotten anything,” he said.
The former UP CM said the Samajwadi Party has stood with all sections of the society through troubled times and have tried to accommodate aspirations of all in the party manifesto. “People have reposed faith in the SP and voted in favour of the party and its alliance partners in large numbers. We are duty-bound and committed to abide by the Constitution of India and that of the party which focuses on prosperity for all,” Akhilesh said, adding that all the promises that the party has made in its election manifesto will be implemented in a time-bound manner once the party is voted to power.

He said the BJP took the people’s support, that it had got in 2017 polls by spreading falsehood, for granted. The BJP did not care for the prosperity of people and continued to promote its propaganda, doing nothing for the development of the state. This time, people have expressed their disenchantment with the saffron party by voting against it in bulk, Akhilesh added.
