GORAKHPUR: On the last day of campaigning, Union minister and BJP leader
Smriti Irani took out a bike rally in
Gorakhpur on Friday.
She was seeking votes for party candidate from Gorakhpur Ravi Kishan.
Irani covered a distance of 5km on a white Activa in a helmet under scorching sun.
Ravi Kishan's wife Preeti Shukla along with leaders and workers of BJP Mahila Morcha accompained her.
The rally began from Gorakhnath temple gate and concluded at
Golghar
Kali Temple. Locals showered flower petals and perfume as the rally covered various areas of the city.
During her address, she said, "If we want to build a New India, we need to focus on development by women rather than only development of women. This is not new to our country as it has been the base of our culture and when women participation was not even in the imagination of the world, India had the concept of Nar-Nari, Shiv and Shakti and Ardhnarishwar."
"Even during freedom struggle if contribution of Mangal Pandey can't be denied, the valour and strength of Rani Laxmi Bai can't be forgotten too," she added.
