Every year, several filmmakers , actors, cricketers, and others celebs even common people come forward and urge people not to burst crackers during Diwali as it causes a lot of damage to our nature and it takes a toll on our health especially the respiratory. The pets too get affected by the sound pollution during Diwali. I am happy that Calcutta High Court has banned the use of firecrackers in West Bengal on Diwali, Kali Puja, and Chatt Puja due to the pandemic. This will control air pollution, which is hazardous for COVID-19 patients and those who have recovered from it. The sound and air pollution are dangerous for us and animals too. The government had appealed to people to refrain from burning firecrackers, so we should abide by it for a better tomorrow.

Anindya Chatterjee

Let’s be a little considerate towards people with respiratory problems and stray animals. I have five pets at home. I know how they suffer during Diwali. Let’s pledge to make this one a noiseless and pollution-free Diwali. I hope people around us abstain from burning firecrackers this year.

Rukmini Maitra

I urge everyone not to burst crackers this Diwali/Kali Puja as it makes the respiratory system prone to illnesses, especially in this pandemic. Just light up your homes, which eventually will light up your hearts. Spread love.

Tnusree Chakraborty

We must all celebrate Diwali, but it should be a peaceful one. We must think about those affected by COVID-19 and how they are suffering. So, let this be a #NoCrackersDiwali. The respiratory issues will increase because of the air pollution so we should stop burning crackers. Let’s think of our community at large and spend a peaceful Diwali with friends and family at home over good food and adda.

Nusrat Jahan

This year, I prefer to spend a quiet Diwali with my family and friends. Owing to the pandemic, let’s make this Diwali - a festival of lights and not a pollution and sonic boom event. My heart goes out to the animals around us. Let's not torture them by bursting crackers. Kudos to many state administrations for banning the usage of crackers. Let this be a #NoCrackersDiwali.

Mimi Chakraborty

I am so happy that the Calcutta High Court has banned the use of firecrackers in West Bengal on Diwali, Kali Puja and Chhatt Puja in view of the coronavirus pandemic that has gripped the world. Most of the days we are reading that cases are on the rise. This move by the Calcutta High Court will control air pollution which is dangerous for COVID-19 patients and for us too. Stray animals too get hugely affected. So, it is my request to all to stop splurging on crackers for a few hours of fun that will eventually harm many.

8/9

Sreelekha Mitra

I am a dog mother and I know how much trouble our furry friends go through due to the sound and harmful smoke produced by these crackers. Animals in our homes and on the streets get extremely frightened. Even the birds around us feel uncomfortable. I would urge everyone to say no to crackers and celebrate this Diwali with lights and diyas.

9/9

Subhashree Ganguly

Every year, I urge all to stop burning crackers because it creates sound and air pollution. It’s even more important this year because the COVID affected patients will have problem in breathing. So, let this Diwali be of lights and a no crackers Diwali.
