For any Bengalee, Durga Puja isn’t just a religious event; it's a cultural celebration as well. Be it new fashion, new books, new dishes or new films, the five days of Durga Puja are everything we eagerly wait for throughout the year. The festival spirit encourages people to go out and have fun with families and friends. In a bid to cash upon the same spirit, big budget films are often released during this time. Lately, the trend has saw a bit change in its approach. Not only one big release, now the movie buffs are literally spoiled for the choice. With as many as six movies awaiting a Box Office clash this Puja, we have listed 5 of the biggest clash of the titans Bengali Box Office has seen during Durga Puja.

The tradition of box-office clash during Durga Puja continues as six Bengali films are all geared up for the Puja release this year. The exciting list includes a detective thriller ‘Byomkesh Gowtro’, a multi-starrer comedy ‘Hoichoi Unlimited’, a period drama ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’, an action flick ‘Villain’, a children’s adventure ‘Manojder Advut Bari’, and a musical drama ‘Kishore Kumar Junior’, in short, the audience is given a choice to enjoy films catering almost all genres and flavors. The question is who will ride the victory stand!

‘Yeti Obhijaan’/ ‘Byomkesh O Agnibaan’/ ‘Cockpit’/ ‘Projapoti Biskut’/ ‘Bolo Dugga Maiki’/ ‘Cholochitro Circus’/ ‘Sreshto Bangali’ (2017)

2017 saw clash of the titans during Durga Puja with seven Bengali films lining up at the box-office. Srijit Mukherji reprived his one-movie-old Kakababu franchise with ‘Yeti Obhijaan’. Anjan Dutt's detective thriller ‘Byomkesh O Agnibaan’ and Dev's ‘Cockpit’ intrigued the audience with their intense content. Whereas Anindya Chatterjee's ‘Projapoti Biskut’ received accolades due to its simplicity. Among the rest, Raj Chakraborty's ‘Bolo Dugga Maiki’, Mainak Bhaumik's ‘Cholochitro Circus’ and Swapan Saha's ‘Srestho Bangali’ failed to live up to the expectations given the others’ success.

4/6

‘Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana’ / ‘Zulfiqar’ / ‘Gangster’ / ‘Abhimaan’ / ‘Chocolate’ / ‘Prem Ki Bujhini’ (2016)

With as many as six movies to hit the theatres at a time, 2016 Puja was another biggest cine event for Bengali industry. From Shakespeare to Sharadindu, from ‘Prem Ki Bujhini’ to ‘Abhimaan’, nothing was left out from the elite list. The big banners of Tollywood put their best bet to attract the audience and strike gold at the Box Office. The rest was a Puja full house for most of the halls with entertaining movies and multiple superhits in one week.

‘Sudhu Tomari Jonyo’ / ‘Rajkahini’ / ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ / ‘Katmundu’ / ‘Cross Connection 2’ (2015)

2015 puja saw a major Box Office clash with five films from different genres releasing. While ‘Sudhu Tomari Jonyo’ turned out to be the highest grossing movie that year, Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Rajkahini’ also struck gold at the Bengali Box Office and received critical acclaims from many international film festivals as well. ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ too got thumbs up from the viewers and ‘Katmundu’, being a entertaining comedy flick, enjoyed its own set of audience. The sequel to 'Cross Connection' however failed to attract the audience.

6/6

‘Baishe Srabon’ / ‘Faande Poriya Boga Kande Re’ / ‘Hello Memsaheb’ / ‘Warrant-The Mission’ (2011)

A super successful year for Srijit Mukherji as his film grabbed almost all the limelight at the Durga Puja box-office. ‘Baishe Srabon’, the intense thriller revolving around a series of brutal murders, literally left the Kolkata audience in awe, especially the mind boggling climax. Meanwhile, the bone-ticking comedy flick ‘Faande Poriya Boga Kande Re’ despite having an uncanny similarity with Hollywood hit 'Our Hospitality', had a decent response giving a lot of laughter dose. However, Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy's ' Hello Memsaheb' sank with no trace left.
