Manas Mukul Paul, whose directorial debut ‘Sahaj Paather Gappo’ won National Award last year, is all geared up for a biopic on legendary Indian freedom fighter Dinesh Gupta.
The biopic will go on the floors after
Durga Puja. Although there hasn’t been any concrete news about who will play the titular role, the audition for Dinesh Gupta’s character has already been done earlier in May.
Manash is planning to shoot the film in Kolkata, Midnapore and Bangladesh. He has already started working on the scripts and dialogues.
Revealing what encouraged him to do a biopic on the famous Bengali freedom fighter, director Manas Mukul Paul said, “The stories of our freedom fighters have always attracted me and Binay-Badal-Dinesh is like superheroes to us. We already know their sacrifices, their fight against the British rulers but I want to focus on the facts which are lesser-known or unknown. These brave martyrs once gave their lives for our country. So, my film would be a tribute to them also.”
Not just Dinesh, the story of Binay and Badal will find their place in the upcoming biopic. The famous Writers Building attack by Binay-Badal-Dinesh will also be covered.
Interestingly, not so long ago, Tollygunge was abuzz with rumours that director
Aniket Chattopadhyay was also planning a film on Binay-Badal-Dinesh under the banner of Dev’s home production.
Dinesh Gupta was born on December 6, 1911 in Josholong of Munshiganj District, now in Bangladesh. While studying in Dhaka College, he joined Bengal Volunteers, a group founded by
Subhas Chandra Bose in 1928. Soon the Bengal Volunteers turned out to be a more active revolutionary association and started liquidating infamous British police officers. Dinesh was only 19 when he was hanged for anti-government activities and murder on 7 July 1931 at Alipore Jail.
