Tollywood roundup: Bengali cinema’s top 10 newsmakers this week

Be it the latest rumours about Srabanti Chatterjee’s new boyfriend, Arindam Sil’s upcoming thriller, Dev-Rukmini leaving ‘Hobu Chandra Raja Gobu Chandra Mantri’, Jaya Ahsan’s first film with Atanu Ghosh or rumours of Parambrata teaming up with Anushka Sharma; as the week came to an end, there are so many exciting updates from the Bengali industry. Arindam Sil’s ‘Khela Jakhon’ will get a new title

When Anirban Sil announced last year his next will be a hardcore thriller starring Bollywood actress Sayani Gupta in the lead it doubled the excitement of all his fans. Sil too was super excited about his initial casting. But then, it went through a major revamp in casting and it subsequently raised a lot questions. And now, the upcoming thriller awaits one more change. Any guess? The change will be in the title. Till now Arindam has given a working title ‘Khela Jakhon’ to his next project but soon the thriller will have a new name.

Srabanti dating a cabin crew supervisor!

Srabanti Chatterjee's marriage with popular model Krishnan Vraj broke last year. They officially ended their marriage recently. Now if the latest rumors are to believe, the pretty actress has found a new man in her love life. Rumour has it the ‘Bagh Bandi Khela’ actress has started dating Roshan Sinha, a cabin crew supervisor. Interestingly, Roshan is also close to Srabanti's brother-in-law. The alleged couple follows each-other's social networking handles closely. However, Srabanti hasn’t yet made any official announcement.

Sayantani Guhathakurta in Pathikrit Basu's next

We already know Pathikrit Basu's next is a romantic drama featuring Bonny Sengupta and Rupsha Mukherjee in the lead. While Saayoni Ghosh, Aparajita Auddy, Saurav Das, and Shankar Chakraborty will essay pivotal roles in this film bankrolled by SVF, ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ fame Sayantani Guhathakurta is the latest edition to the ensemble cast. She will essay the role of a medical student Maria who has a significant role to play in the narrative. The yet-to-be-titled film will go on floors from January 28.

Cine Central screens ‘Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa’, ‘Abby Sen’ and ‘Cinemawala’

Cine Central, one of India’s largest film society, recently organized a 3-day special screening of three films directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Atanu Ghosh and Kaushik Ganguly, along with a face to face interaction with the directors at Tapan Theatre. There are no entry fees and all are welcome to watch these three critically acclaimed films. On January 28 Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Hindi dark comedy ‘Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa’ was screened. Atanu Ghosh’s 2013 film ‘Abby Sen’ was screened the next day and on January 30 Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘Cinemawala’ was shown.

Swatilekha Sengupta and Indrani Haldar in a family drama

For the first time, veteran actress Swatilekha Sengupta and Indrani Haldar is sharing the screen in debutant director Sudip Chakraborty’s ‘Borof’. Swatilekha will be seen as the mother-in-law to Indrani Haldar. The film, Shot with a shoe-string budget, follows the emotional journey of the mother and wife of a renowned mountaineer who went missing after successfully completing his Everest expedition. Apart from Swatilekha and Indrani, the cast also includes Shataf Figar and Saikat Mitra, renowned singer and son of Music maestro late Shyamal Mitra. ‘Borof’ is slated to release on February 22.

Dev and Rukmini backs out of a film

When Dev and director Aniket Chatterjee promised create magic during the announcement of ‘Hobu Chandra Raja Gobu Chandra Mantri’, it doubled the excitement for the fans. And why not? Dev and Rukmini were to play the lead in this film aimed mainly for children. But then Dev decided to cast someone else as the male lead, a king, due to his conflicting schedule. However, Rukmini was supposed to play the queen as announced before and seasoned actor Kharaj Mukherjee was roped in to essay the mantri’s role. But now it’s confirmed, Rukmini too won’t be playing the female lead. Recently Dev shared picture of Aniket Chattopadhyay and DOP of the upcoming film with a cryptic caption that read: Production no -6 #HCRGCM With my fav DOP Hari n Dir @aniket9163 Will announce the cast ASAP No Me n Rukmini not doing the film..we have better n bigger casting @DEV_Pvtltd.”

Arindam Bhattacharya casts Parambrata and Tnusree in his next

His last ‘Flat No. 609’ received an overwhelming response from the critics and fans alike and now Arindam Bhattacharya is all set for his next directorial. Touted to be an intense thriller, the yet untitled film will see Parambrata Chatterjee and Tnusree Chakraborty in the lead. Rajatava Dutta also plays a pivotal role of an encounter cop in this film. The film will go on floors next month.

Jaya Ahsan’s singing talent

Atanu Ghosh’s next 'Binisutoy' sees Ritwick Chakraborty and Jaya Ahsan teaming up as the lead pair for the first time. Atanu will shed light on the eternal quest for an alternative lifestyle as he himself has penned the story. What’s more interesting apart from the unusual pair is that you will get to see Jaya Ahsan’s singing talent as well. Despite not being a trained singer, her character in 'Binisutoy' demands her to sing. This is the first time Jaya is working with Atanu Ghosh. The film will go on floors from February 6 and will have an ensemble cast including Kaushik Sen, Chandrayee Ghosh, Kheya Chattopadhyay and others in important roles.

Sayantan Ghosal to make next Tenida film

Tenida and his merry band of goons are returning to the big screen. If all goes according plan, Sayantan Ghosal will don the director hat for the film based on the iconic literary character created by Narayan Gangopadhyay and it will be made under the banner of Surinder Films. Industry insiders reveal Kanchan Mullick will play the titular character of Tenida. Sayantan is planning to make his film based on the story ‘Jhau Bungalow Rahashya’. Beside Kanchan Mullick, Gaurav Chakrabarty will be seen in a key role.

Parmabrata in Anushka Sharma’s next production

Last year their on-screen chemistry in ‘Pari’ stunned everyone. Obviously we are talking about Anushka Sharma and Parambrata Chatterjee. Now, according to the latest reports, Parambrata is all set to appear in another Bollywood film from Anushka’s production house. It will be directed by Anvita Dutt who has written the dialogues of another Bollywood hit ‘Queen’. A portion of the film will be shot in Kolkata. Beside Parmabrata, this film may have Kankana Sen Sharma and Rahul Bose playing pivotal roles. However, there hasn’t been any official announcement from Anushka Sharma or Parambrata.
