'Gumnaami'

Ever since Srijit Mukherji announced his dream project ‘Gumnaami’, a film based on Gumnami Baba, the thriller has been in the center of controversy. Even Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grand nephew Chandra Kumar Bose took a dig at the national award winning director in public. Not only that, director Aniket Chattopadhyay in his series of Facebook posts took a dig at the Gumnaami baba - the godman who has been rumoured to be Netaji. However, it didn’t dump Srijit’s spirit and he insisted time and again the film will be made despite all the odds and criticisms. The upcoming thriller is set to explore the myth of the mysterious sadhu often addressed as Gumnaami Baba and Prosenjit Chatterjee will be seen in the titular role. There are so many rumors and conspiracy theories on Netaji's return to India after his supposed death in Taihoku plane crash. Srijit’s upcoming film’s plot is one of those rumours which apparently set the crux of the film. The film draws inspiration from Anuj Dhar and Chandrachur Ghosh’s book ‘CONUNDRUM, Subhas Bose’s Life After Death’. Produced by SVF, ‘Gumnaami’ is set to release this Puja.

'Professor Shonku O El Dorado'

Sandip Ray’s adventure science-fiction movie ‘Professor Shonku O El Dorado’, inspired by his father Satyajit Ray’s story ‘Nakur Babu O El Dorado’, has made headlines ever since it was announced. While veteran actor Dhritiman Chatterjee will play the titular role of Professor Shonku, Subhashish Mukhopadhyay will be seen as Nokurbabu. Many believe Ray’s creation Professor Shonku was inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s ‘Professor Challenger’ and ‘Hesoram Husiar’, another unique character made by his father Sukumar Ray. Sandip Ray had earlier said his father Satyajit Ray made it extremely difficult to portray the character differently as Ray sketched every one of his characters in his own way. So, there is no liberty to change their physical appearances. He also claimed there is no creative license to make Shonku behave or speak any differently.
