In the Indian movie-sphere, where Bollywood and Tollywood are leading from the front, Bengali cinema is gradually gaining the pace with these two in a rigorous Box Office battle. Bengali films have started to surprise everyone at the Box Office by setting up hefty figures. According to several industry sources, the adventure flick has managed to mint over Rs 48 crore all around the world. ‘Amazon Obhijan’ was initially released in a few selected cinemas but positive word of mouth persuaded makers to release the film nationwide in six languages.

Chander Pahar (Over Rs.20 crore)

It’s a 2013 Indian adventure drama flick inspired by the famous Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay novel of the same name. This Kamaleshwar Mukherjee directorial was the most successful film in Bengali cinema before ‘Amazon Obhijan’ as it collected more than Rs 20 crore at the Box Office. Also, the film is regarded as Tollywood hero Dev’s most notable performance. ‘Chander Pahar’ follows young Shankar’s journey to the famous 'Mountain Of The Moon', searching for gold and diamond mines, facing challenges as vivid and dangerous as lurking deadly snakes, blood-thirsty lions, an active volcano and a supernatural seemingly imaginative horror 'The Bunyip' who is believed to be the guardian angel of the diamond mines.
