‘Piya Re’: Interesting and lesser-known facts about the upcoming romantic saga

The onscreen chemistry between Soham Chakraborty and Srabanti Chatterjee has always remained a rage among their fans. The cute pair has appeared in around five films in the recent times and they have always been crowd pullers. Now, the hit pair is all geared up for their next ‘Piya Re’ directed by Abhimanyu Mukherjee. Ahead of the romantic drama’s Friday release, here is a look at some interesting facts which makes the film worth a watch for those who love commercial potboilers.

What is the story all about?

The romantic drama weaves around the touching story of Rabi (Soham Chakraborty) and his love interest Ria (Srabanti Chatterjee). As per the narrative, Rabi is entirely immersed in his imaginary world as he falls for Ria, a young lady from a nearby slum area but he is laughed at by people for his situation. Ria right from the beginning understands Rabi’s feelings and reciprocates as well. Rabi and Riya get separated following some unfortunate incidents. Whether Rabi ultimately saves Riya from destroying her life and reunites with her forms the crux of the film.

Kanchan Mullick turns a villain

He is regarded as an avant-garde comedian whose comic timing has always made us roll on the floor laughing. But who could have thought of him as a villain! Yes, you heard it right. Kanchan Mullick will essay a negative role in 'Piya Re'. The romantic flick will see him as a ruthless person, the local goon and Srabanti’s elder brother Madhab, who will give the audience a gut churn. Kanchan is however quite happy with his character on the screen. "Abhimanyu has kept faith on me. I also love taking challenges," he added.

Soham-Srabanti magic

We have seen many on-screen jodis in Tollywood over the years – from Uttam-Suchitra, Soumitra-Tanuja to Prosenjit-Rituparna. But, in 21st-century Bengali cinema, it’s hard to find an on-screen couple who is consistently doing films without breaking their partnership. Gen-Y's hit pair- Soham Chakraborty and Srabanti Chatterjee have delivered hits like ‘Amanush’, ‘Fande Poria Boga Kande Re’, ‘Sudhu Tomari Jonyo’ and ‘Katmundu’ in recent times. Now, the pair is all geared up for yet another romantic saga. It will be interesting to see if Soham and Srabanti’s on-screen chemistry can do wonders once again.

Jeet Gannguli’s super hit music

The audience got hooked on to the title track of ‘Piya Re’ ever since it was released last month. Composed and sung by Jeet himself, another melodious track ‘Swapno Safar’ promised an unconditional love saga even before the film releases. Jeet has, time and again, proved why he is called the melody king of the Bengali industry. There are several instances where the films have become popular despite the lack of poor story-telling, Jeet Ganguli’s soul-stirring music has single-handedly saved those commercial films and made them musical hits.

Soham opens a garment store

Soham Chakraborty starts a new venture. The popular actor recently opened a new garment store... Wait, not in reality but for his next film! In ‘Piya Re’, he plays a middle-class young man, who takes an initiative to start a new business in a slum area. In a cut-throat industry where child artists rarely cement their place as adult actors, Soham Chakraborty somehow managed to carve a niche for himself after starting his career as a child artist (Master Bittu) and sometimes made critics say wow delivering impressive performances but it happened only on a few occasions. However, no one can deny the actor owes his commercial success much to a number of remakes like 'Faande Poriya Boga Kaande Re' (2011), 'Amanush 2' (2015), 'Shudhu Tomari Jonyo' (2015), 'Bangali Babu English Mem' (2014) and 'Loveria' (2013).
