Alia, stunned the audience and viewers when she presented the trophy for Best Film Not in the English Language, delivering part of her presentation in Hindi before speaking in English.

After an impressive introduction from host Alan Cumming, Alia took to the stage and began with a "Namaste."

In the true spirit of celebrating global storytelling, she began “Agla award ek aise film ke liye hain, jo angrezi me nahi hai.” After a brief pause, she quipped, "Don't reach for the subtitles just yet," before going on to explain that she was only introducing the next award category in Hindi.

'One Battle After Another' wins 6 prizes including best picture at Britain’s BAFTA film awards

Politically charged thriller “One Battle After Another” took six prizes, including best picture, at the British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, building momentum ahead of the Oscars next month.

Blues-steeped vampire epic “Sinners” and gothic horror story “Frankenstein” won three awards each, while Shakespearean family tragedy “Hamnet” was named best British film.

Jessie Buckley, as widely predicted, won the best actress prize for playing a grieving mother, and wife of William Shakespeare, Agnes Hathaway, in “Hamnet.”

In a major upset, Robert Aramayo took the best actor prize for the British indie film “I Swear,” beating stars including Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet.

“One Battle After Another,” Paul Thomas Anderson’s explosive film about a group of revolutionaries in conflict with the state, won the awards for directing, adapted screenplay, cinematography, editing, and Sean Penn’s supporting performance.

“This is very overwhelming and wonderful,” Anderson said as he accepted the directing prize.

In an emotional moment at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards, 'Boong' director Lakshmipriya Devi used her acceptance speech to call for peace in Manipur after her film won Best Children’s & Family Film.
Taking the stage with producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, Lakshmipriya Devi said, "To walk up till here felt like the last few steps to reach a summit of a mountain we never knew we were climbing in the first place. Just want to use this opportunity to say that we pray for peace to return to Manipur. We pray that all the internally displaced children, including the child actors in the film. regained their joy, their innocence, and their dream once again. 
We pray that no conflict is ever formidable enough to destroy the one superpower that all of us have as human beings, that i,s forgiveness. So thank you, BAFTA, for giving us not only an award, but this stage to express our hope."

Boong, produced by Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment and directed by debutant Lakshmipriya Devi, is competing for an award in the Best Children's & Family Film category at the awards ceremony.

Prince William, Kate Middleton attend BAFTA Awards 2026

The red carpet for the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards was rolled out on Sunday evening, drawing a star-studded gathering in London.

Joining the glittering awards are Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Prince and Princess of Wales, who turned heads with their stunning appearances amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the royal family.

Prince William was dressed in a burgundy velvet jacket, which he paired with a classic black tie, while Middleton chose a floor-length pink Gucci dress as they walked the red carpet together.

The couple, though, refrained from speaking to the media as they made their way directly into the Royal Festival Hall.

It is yet to be seen if Prince William, who has been BAFTA president since 2010, will address the event.

Prince William and Kate Middleton made a rare appearance at the BAFTA Film Awards 2026, following their absence last year. In 2024, William arrived solo, owing to his wife's recovery from abdominal surgery.

The show that could just predict the next film to win the Oscars sees 'One Battle After Another' leading with 14 nominations, one more than 'Sinners'. Both films are competing for Best Film alongside 'Hamnet', 'Marty Supreme' and 'Sentimental Value'.
