‘Coronation Street’ star Alan Rothwell passes away at 89
Alan Rothwell, a legendary veteran actor best known for his portrayal of David Barlow in ‘Coronation Street’, has passed away. He was 89 years old at the time of his passing.

The famed veteran star passed away at the age of 89 on May 14 after suffering from a brief illness. His family confirmed the news, according to Press Association reports. A statement further read that "Beyond his professional achievements, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed." At the time of writing, no other details about his passing were provided to the public. They did, however, confirm that he passed away ‘peacefully’ while admitted to a hospital.

Tributes pour in for the actor

As the news of his passing was announced, tributes and posts of remembrance were shared by fellow co-stars and fans. William Roache, who worked with him on ‘Coronation Street’, wrote: "I am very sorry to hear of Alan's passing. He and I worked together on the very first episodes of Coronation Street, which was such a wonderful time, I got to know him well over the years. He was a very good actor and a delightful man. I send my thoughts and condolences to his family.
"A spokesperson from the TV show also issued a statement that read: “We’re very sorry to hear of Alan Rothwell’s passing and extend our sincerest condolences to his family at this very sad time. He created an iconic and memorable character in David Barlow and will forever be remembered as one of the original cast members of Coronation Street.”

Who was Alan Rothwell

The veteran actor was born on February 9, 1937, in Oldham, Lancashire, England. His rise to fame came with ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘The Archers’, after which he worked in many other TV shows and films. In the 1980s, he also starred in the TV show ‘Brookside,’ where he played the role of Nicholas Black. Some of his other popular works include ‘Picture Box’ and ‘Hickory House.’
