James McCaffrey voice of 'Max Payne', passes away after battle with myeloma

James McCaffrey, best known for his iconic voice portrayal of 'Max Payne' in the popular video game series, has passed away at the age of 65.

McCaffrey's talent agent, David Elliot, confirmed the sad news on Tuesday, revealing that the actor died on Sunday surrounded by family and friends, AP reported.

The actor, who was also known for his roles in television shows like 'Rescue Me' reportedly succumbed to myeloma, a form of cancer impacting white blood cells. His wife, fellow actor Rochelle Bostrom, disclosed to The Hollywood Reporter that McCaffrey breathed his last at their home in Larchmont, a New York suburb of Manhattan.



Tributes have poured in for the veteran actor, with fellow New York actor and "Entourage" star Kevin Dillon taking to social media to express his condolences. In an Instagram post, Dillon wrote, "#rip James McCaffrey we were lucky to have known you," accompanied by a photo of the two actors.

McCaffrey's 35-year career spanned both television and film. He featured in notable roles on TV series such as 'Blue Bloods' and 'Suits'. However, he gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of a New York City firefighter in the FX drama 'Rescue Me'.

Beyond his on-screen achievements, McCaffrey left an indelible mark in the gaming world by lending his voice to Max Payne, the vigilante character who is out for revenge in the video game series of the same name.



David Elliot, in a heartfelt message, acknowledged McCaffrey's training at the Actor's Studio and praised his unwavering passion for creating characters. Despite often being drawn towards leading man roles due to his good looks, McCaffrey remained dedicated to his craft.

McCaffrey is survived by his wife Rochelle Bostrom and daughter Tiernan McCaffrey.
