Maestro Audience Reviews: Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan impress all with their performances; Twitterati say film is 'Oscar bait'

Bradley Cooper transformed himself into the legendary composer Leonard Bernstein for his new film 'Maestro', which released on Netflix on December 20.

The 48-year-old actor spent years researching, writing, directing and starring in the film about the most famous American conductor and composer of the 20th century. The film focuses on the deep and complex relationship between Bernstein and his wife Felicia, played by Carey Mulligan.

As the film debuted online on Wednesday night, many tuned in to watch the movie that has won critical acclaim. Besides the good critical reviews, the film is also tipped to be an Oscar favourite. To find out if the film lived up to the hype, many steamed the film and later took to Twitter to share their thoughts and reviews.



Leading lady Mulligan's performance stood out for many, who applauded her brilliance in playing Felicia. Her act in the film, seemed to have convinced viewers that she will be a contender for an Oscar this season.

A fan commented, "Just finished #Maestro - wasn’t looking forward to it, but it was better than I expected. And the main reason is #CareyMulligan. She is the heart of this film, I was so impressed. Best Actress nom to follow for sure."


Others marvelled at Bradley's performance as the music maestro while also praising his directorial abilities. However, many agreed that although the film was good, it did not match up to 'A Star Is Born' that saw Cooper share screen space with Lady Gaga.

"Bradley Cooper showed his masterful talent behind the camera. Also, Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan gave their best performance in this beautiful film. This is a phenomenal piece of cinema," read a tweet.





Still a few were rather unimpressed, saying, 'Maestro looks and feels like those movies people talk about when saying that the Oscars are “the vegetables of movies.” Something you’re obliged to watch because it was nominated and is supposed to be good for you but no real enjoyment while doing so."

The reviews that came in, seemed to suggest that the movie, although a 'cinamatic symphony', had its flaws. Many thought the film was 'choppy', thus making it seem like it had 'no flow' and was 'soulless'. Still others thought the film was made as 'Oscar bait'.

I went into Maestro sceptical, expecting pure Oscar bait. And yes, some parts are very showy. But all in all, it was a gorgeous film. The music, the acting- not just Bradley Cooper, but my God, Carey Mulligan
