One legal source called the court decision a “celebrity punishment,” suggesting it could mean little more than checking in online. Another source who has known LaBeouf for years said, “This guy has got to find a way to get sober or die; eventually this is all going to a tragic ending.” The same source added, “His behavior sounds like an addict. It’s just sad that someone with so much to live for continually puts himself at risk.”

Those in his orbit describe him as a “master manipulator” who is “very adept at playing the role of a good guy in recovery trying to be a better self.” A source claimed, “He’s just so good at convincing people and potential partners; they all fall for it.”

He also said, “Definitely. Yeah. 1,000 percent,” when asked if he takes responsibility.

Despite multiple rehab stints and past arrests, LaBeouf appears to remain at a crossroads. Judge Simone Levine recently said she doubted he could “handle his alcohol” and questioned whether he takes “his alcohol addiction seriously.” He is due back in court on March 19.
