Hundreds of Shia Muslims in Srinagar held demonstrations against the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US and Israeli airstrikes. Protests continued for the second consecutive day on Monday.

Groups of protesters marched through key stretches of the city, chanting anti-US and anti-Israel slogans.

Participants carried black flags and portraits of Khamenei during the demonstrations, describing his death as a major loss for the community.

Many protesters termed the gatherings mourning processions. Traditional Nauha chants were heard in parts of the city.

Protests were reported from several areas with sizeable Shia populations, where residents gathered to express grief and solidarity with Iran.

Security forces were deployed in sensitive zones. In a few areas, mild force was reportedly used to disperse crowds and prevent escalation.

Protesters said they were standing in solidarity with Iran and mourning what they described as a major loss for the global Shia community.

Authorities increased security presence in key areas amid concerns over law and order as protests continued.

For many Shia Muslims, Khamenei was regarded as a Marja-e-Taqlid, a respected religious authority, adding a spiritual dimension to the protests.

Demonstrations in Srinagar entered their second day on Monday, with authorities maintaining heightened vigilance across sensitive locations.
