Simu Liu, Park Seo Joon, Ma Dong-seok: Asian actors playing superheroes in Marvel movies

'Shang-Chi' made a smashing debut at the global box office and became one of the biggest post-pandemic releases. The film that is regarded as one of the best origins films in the MCU thus far, is also the first to feature an all-Asian cast. However, over the past decade, many Asian faces have been playing diverse roles and kicking butt alongside Marvel's greatest heroes. Here's a list of Asian actors who have helped save the world in the MCU.

​Simu Liu

Simu Liu is the newest errant into the world of superheroes with 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings'. The Canadian actor of Chinese descent is among the new faces marching into Phase 4 of the MCU. According to the latest reports, fans may just get to see more of Liu as he is set to feature as one of the members of the new Avengers.

Come November, Gemma Chan will be seen in action, playing the role of Sersi in 'Eternals'. Long before she could take on the role of the all-powerful immortal, Chan featured as a blue-skinned Kree, fighting alongside Brie Larson in 'Captain Marvel'.

​Park Seo Joon

It is finally time for South Korean actor Park Seo Joon to get into superhero mode as he begins work on the 'Captain Marvel' sequel starring Brie Larson. News that the actor bagged his first Marvel role, came in the form of an IMDB update that confirmed he had joined the ensemble cast featuring Brie Larson, Zawe Ashton, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani. With this, he is now only the third Korean actor to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Ma Dong-seok

Korean-American actor Ma Dong-seok, will soon be seen playing an immortal race of superheroes in the upcoming Chloe Zhao directorial - 'Eternals'. The actor, also known as Don Lee, who broke out with his role in the South Korean zombie film 'Train to Busan' was tapped to play the role of Gilgamesh, a powerful Eternal who is also physically the strongest of the group. With this film, Ma Dong-seok marks his debut in a Hollywood feature film.

Benedict Wong

Benedict Wong has been one of the most prominent faces in the MCU. Fans keeping up with the superhero films will know that his character Wong, has already featured in 'Doctor Strange', 'Avengers: Infinity War', 'Avengers: Endgame', 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' and will also feature in the upcoming Tom Holland starrer 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. Born and raised in Lancashire, England, to parents who had emigrated from Hong Kong, Wong has been one of the most prominent actors of Asian descent in the Marvel cinematic universe.

Claudia Kim

Claudia Kim was the first South Korean star to star in an MCU film, and what better way to announce her arrival than in an 'Avengers' movie. The actress played a significant role of Dr. Helen Cho, a genius geneticist who unwittingly helped create a body for Ultron, in the 2015 smash hit 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'.

​Tadanobu Asano

Tadanobu Satō, famously known by his stage name Tadanobu Asano, is a Japanese actor who has been kicking butt in the MCU since 2011. The actor was among the first few leading Asian stars to bag a prominent role as the Asgardian warrior Hogun, a member of the elite army. He reprised the role in 2013's 'Thor: The Dark World' and 2017's 'Thor: Ragnarok'.
