'Tehran' producer Dana Eden found dead in Athens hotel; police investigating suspected suicide

Dana Eden, the producer behind the Emmy-winning spy series 'Tehran', was found dead in a hotel room in Athens, Greek authorities have confirmed.

News of her demise broke on Monday night, after Israeli news publications reported that the star producer was discovered dead, prompting Greek authorities to commence their investigations in the case of a suspected suicide. As per the reports, Eden's body was found with bruises around her neck, while pills were also found at the scene. Local outlet Ta Nea reported that cops also noted bruising on the lower parts of her body.




No foul play in death

Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding her death have not been officially disclosed, but the production company behind 'Tehran' dismissed reports suggesting any 'foul play'.

Production team issues statement

In a statement to The Times of Israel, a spokesperson for Donna and Shula Productions said, "The production company wants to make it clear that the rumours of the death being criminal or nationalistic are not true and baseless. We call on the media and the public not to publish unfounded theories and to act with responsibility and sensitivity. This is a moment of immense pain for the family, friends, and colleagues."

“We want to preserve Dana’s dignity and her privacy,” they concluded.

Dana's body discovered by brother

Eden was reportedly in the Greek capital filming the fourth season of the hugely successful spy thriller. Israeli broadcaster Kan reported that her body was discovered by her brother, who had grown concerned after she failed to respond to his text messages.

'Tehran', revolves around a Mossad agent attempting to infiltrate Iran’s regime. The series has been widely acclaimed since its debut and has been enjoying continued success with its third season releasing last month, on 9 January. The series won an International Emmy Award in 2021 and was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Foreign Language Series in 2023.
