Tyrese Gibson found himself in legal trouble once again on Monday, as he was arrested in a Fulton County, Georgia courtroom for failing to meet his child support obligations for his 5-year-old daughter, Soraya, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Samantha Lee. The courtroom drama unfolded before Judge Kevin Farmer, who had previously mandated that Gibson pay $10,000 per month in child support starting in April 2023. Gibson’s continued failure to adhere to this order led to his arrest on charges of contempt of court. During the hearing, the situation escalated when Gibson was handcuffed and escorted out of the courtroom. Judge Farmer reportedly offered Gibson a chance to avoid incarceration by paying the outstanding amount of $73,000, which included $7,500 in attorney fees for Lee. Gibson is reportedly exploring ways to settle this significant debt, according to reports from TMZ. Ahead of his arrest, Gibson had warned his fans about potential legal issues related to the ongoing child support battle. He took to Instagram to accuse Judge Farmer and Lee’s legal team of colluding against him. In a now-deleted post, Gibson alleged, “Samantha’s lawyer Adam Gleklen and William Alexander who are besties with the judge Kevin M Farmer [ collusion ]”.
He expressed frustration with the judicial process, stating, “We are APPEALING ALL OF HIS RULINGS AND ALREADY HAVE TRIED TO GET THIS JUDGE THROWN OFF THE BENCH TWICE….. The second time we tried to get him recused from the bench. [ He actually denied his own request to be thrown off the bench] …imagine that??” In addition to his social media statements, Gibson reached out to several media outlets, including The Post, to request media access to the hearings. He urged the media to scrutinize the proceedings and question Judge Farmer’s decisions, asserting, “It’s pretty clear that they hate my guts, but I must remind them of my life and my success. I’ve worked my ass off since I was 14 years old to get here”. Gibson’s legal troubles come on the heels of a stormy personal life. He married Samantha Lee in 2017, and they welcomed their daughter Soraya the following year. However, their marriage ended in divorce two years later. In addition to his legal battles with Lee, Gibson is also dealing with issues from his previous marriage to Norma Mitchell, which lasted from 2007 to 2009. Mitchell filed a lawsuit against Gibson in May, accusing him of defamation and privacy violations related to their 17-year-old daughter, Shayla, which he allegedly disclosed on social media.
