Album of the Year: Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’

Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ won her the prestigious Album of the Year Award at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. The album received instant approval from the music lovers when it was released in October 2014. Apart from singing, Taylor has written one song and co-written other 12. She herself has described the album as her first official pop release. The 26-year old looked gorgeous as well as confident while receiving the award and also during her performance.

Song of the Year: Ed Sheeran and Amy Wadge’s ‘Thinking out loud’

‘Thinking out loud’ topped music charts in Europe, South Africa and other countries. Created by Ed Sheeran and Amy Wadge, it also received positive reviews from critics and the audience alike. The song was first performed in May 2014 on a British TV show. It was made available to the public from the next month onwards. Sheeran had written the song when he had first met Wadge, seven years ago.

‘UpTown Funk’ is the track from Mark Ronson’s fourth album, ‘UpTown Special’. Sung by American singer Bruno Mars, the single was first released in November 2014 and it topped music charts in no time. According to various reports, ‘UpTown Funk’ overtook ‘Thinking Out Loud’ on various music charts. It is believed that the song is influenced by the Minneapolis sound of the ‘80s.

When Meghan Trainor was announced as the winner of the Best New Artist Award at the 58th Grammys, she couldn’t keep her emotions in check. She was so overwhelmed that she could barely speak during her acceptance speech. Her condition was the same even during an interview, held later. Trainor received instant stardom with her debut album, ‘Title’ in 2015. She was believed to be the hot favourite to win this award. The 22-year old will cut her second album soon.

Best Rap Album: Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’

Kendrick Lamar was overjoyed when his third album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ won him the Best Rap Album Award at the 58th Grammy Awards. The album, including Lamar’s lyrics, received positive reviews from some of the top publications worldwide. The album was reportedly released online in March 2015, unintentionally a week earlier than its scheduled release due to an ‘error.’ Lamar entered the music arena when he was all of 16.
