Kanye West was scheduled to perform at the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille, France, this June; however, the concert faces uncertainty as French authorities signal that his planned performance could be blocked amid ongoing backlash to his past antisemitic remarks.
Previously, Kanye West, who now goes by the name Ye, was blocked from entering the U.K. over his antisemitic remarks.
French authorities are exploring official ways to ban Kanye West
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez is exploring legal options to officially ban the American rapper from performing at a June concert in Marseille, his office confirmed to the AFP news agency on Tuesday.
The mayor of Marseille, Benoit Payan, also made his position clear on the prospect of welcoming West in a social media post. “I refuse to let Marseille be a showcase for those who promote hatred and unapologetic Nazism,” Payan wrote on X March 4. “Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome, our temple of living together and of all Marseillais.”
The controversy extends beyond France
West was recently barred from headlining Wireless Festival after filing a travel application with the U.K. Home Office that was denied. Festival organizers confirmed the fallout, stating: “As a result of the Home Office banning Ye from entering the United Kingdom, Wireless Festival has been forced to cancel. All ticket holders will receive an automatic full refund.”
Prior to the denial of his travel application, news of Ye’s performance at the Wireless Festival led Pepsi and Diageo to pull their sponsorship of the event after West was announced as the Wireless Festival’s headliner.
Meanwhile, the rapper remains active as he recently released his new studio album ‘Bully,’ which features collaborations with Travis Scott, CeeLo Green, Peso Pluma, and Andre Troutman.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
