Lizzo moves to dismiss former stylist's harassment lawsuit alleging meritless claims and improper jurisdiction

Lizzo's legal team has officially moved to dismiss the harassment and discrimination lawsuit filed against the Grammy-winning artist by her former stylist and designer, Asha Daniels. The suit, filed in a Los Angeles court in September, accused Lizzo of fostering a “sexualized, racially charged, and illegal work environment”. Daniels claimed that the singer failed to intervene in the mistreatment carried out by her management team towards other employees.


According to court documents obtained by People, Lizzo's attorney argued that the lawsuit was “meritless and salacious”, asserting that Asha Daniels “failed to perform the work that she was assigned and, eventually, just played hooky and refused to show up for work”. The documents also revealed that Daniels, responsible for creating costumes for Lizzo's dancers during a tour this year, was terminated after “abandoning her post” on the day of a concert in Paris.

Lizzo's legal team cited two primary reasons for the dismissal request – the lawsuit was filed in the wrong location, and Daniels, a New York resident, lacked a connection to California, where the suit was filed against the Delaware corporation.

Responding to the dismissal motion, Daniels' attorney, Ron Zambrano, issued a statement, “Another Hail Mary by Lizzo’s team to try to shift blame to the victims, as she has done to the three other plaintiffs who have sued her for similar allegations of harassment, disability discrimination and retaliatory termination”. He further expressed commitment to seeking justice for their clients, “Lizzo and her lawyers can continue trying to rationalize her illegal and wretched conduct but we remain committed to seeking justice for our clients, and look forward to our day in court where Lizzo can explain her behavior in a public forum”.


This lawsuit against Lizzo followed similar allegations made by several former dancers who claimed they experienced sexual harassment, fat shaming, and a hostile work environment while working with the artist. As the legal battle unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the court will grant the motion to dismiss or proceed to a trial where Lizzo and her legal team may address the allegations in a public forum.
