For
Prince, it didn’t matter whether you’re the Queen of Pop or The Boss!
10 years after the singer’s demise, Bobby Z, the drummer in Prince’s band, revealed that
Madonna and Bruce Springsteen were once banned from entering his dressing room. Reciting some anecdotes, Bobby reflected on his friendship with the ‘Purple Rain’ singer, who passed away in 2016, in a new interview.
When Prince barred Madonna and Bruce Springsteen’s entry
While speaking with The Guardian, Drummer Bobby Z revealed the story of Madonna and Bruce being banned from Prince’s dressing room. "Once there was a hilarious moment when Bruce Springsteen and Madonna came backstage but Prince's dressing room was off limits to them, so they had to use the band's toilet," Bobby Z remembered.
Bobby Z says Prince wasn’t comfortable with meeting other celebrities, "unless he was a fan," and he would get "bashful or embarrassed," despite being a major star himself. "There could be huge stars and he just wouldn't give them the time of day. So besides shaking Elizabeth Taylor's hand I don't know if he'd be interested in chatting," he added.
However, "When he met David Bowie at Paisley Park, Prince's longtime home and studio, it was a warm moment, because he felt that they were equals."
Bruce Springsteen and Madonna paid tribute after Prince’s demise
Even if the Grammy winner didn’t let them into his dressing room, the two musicians didn’t hold back from paying tribute to the legend after his demise at age 57.
Days after his death, The Boss honoured Prince with a cover of "Purple Rain" to open his Barclays Center concert in Brooklyn, per Vanity Fair. While Madonna paid tribute with an Instagram post of her and Prince, who co-wrote "Love Song" for her 1989 album ‘Like a Prayer.’
