Fashion fraternity at World Economic Forum
It’s unusual to spot fashion designers at economic events, but Mumbai-based designer Anuj Sharma and Kolkata-based designer Anamika Khanna were present at the recently concluded World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The two are perhaps the first from the Indian fashion fraternity to be invited to the forum. While Anuj was invited to address a session at the eve of the forum, Anamika was part of an event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), where she showcased her work.

The event was also attended by Ranjit Barot, DJ Aqeel, Ganesh Hegde, Deepika Padukone, Raghav Sachar, the Shillong rock band Snowhite and DJ Megha Kawale at the forum.
Anuj (37), an NID graduate, hit the headlines a couple of years ago when he designed ensembles using a single piece of cloth. Says Anuj, “India was very big in Davos, and I met quite a few people there. The theme for my event, which was on the evening of the 25th, was unconventional management and unconventional India, and I discussed my design philosophy and what I believe in. It was a great experience to meet all the financial bigwigs and understand their work philosophies.”
