Visual storytelling held by women at Panaji

8.30 is a space for visual storytelling, built collectively by 9 women photographers based across India, which was held at Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts, Panaji . This initiative began in 2020 when seeking respite from the solitary nature of individual practices. It has since evolved into an exploration of what commonalities or differences emerge when 9 photographers – linked by professions, gender, and mutual respect for each other – come together. The artists are Zahra Amiruddin, Menty Jamir, Kirthana Devdas, Pavithra Ramanujam, Mithila Jariwala, Vinita Barretto, Riti Sengupta, Divya Cowasji, Adira Thekkuveettil.
Born out of the isolating nature of the pandemic, it has grown into a nurturing space to talk through ideas of solidarity and struggle, all through the lens of the image.

Their work as a collective emerges from a sustained engagement that is informed by their concerns around dissemination and accessibility, their interest in print cultures, community engagement, and creating spaces for younger and more diverse audiences in smaller towns across India to engage with photography.
