Characters from history, criminals and cops, dance and music... Here’s what you missed if you weren’t on the streets of Mumbai as it got into a spirited sweat at the marathon yesterday
A fun filled marathon in Mumbai
The adrenalin and competition apart, the common thread that ran through the city yesterday morning was fun.
From skilled runners, to the fitness-savvy frat, charity-conscious and the young at heart — folks got into costumes and the mood to add their own flavour to the marathon.
The start: The early light saw folks limbering at start line, chest-numbered and ready to take off.

People embracing, wishing each other on, sharing last minute tips and others offering water and snacks.
The race: There were little eco-crusaders dressed as trees, some in costume advocating the cause of the girl child, others promoting health and education, cops leading robbers, even characters from history — from Shivaji to Rani Laxmibai who added a carnival-esque feel to the run.
The end: At certain junctions there were live bhangra, lavni and folk dancers from Mauritius in traditional costume. After a long hour and a half, the Dream Runners crossed the finish line, tired, but in high spirits.
