​​5 films that got delayed because of VFX delays​

In today's day and age, VFX in an extremely important aspect in filmmaking as it completely elevates the movie viewing experience. And with eagle eyed netizens waiting to troll movies, the pressure on filmmakers is high. Recently, Ayushmann Khurrana’s next was postponed because the makers wanted to give the VFX team enough time to complete their work. In the past too, several films have been delayed because of VFX issues, take a look:

Dream Girl 2

Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday starrer 'Dream Girl 2' has been delayed as the makers need more time to perfect the VFX. Ayushmann plays the role of Pooja and Karam in the movie and the team wants to ensure that the actor looks convincing as Pooja on the big screen. Speaking about the same, producer Ekta Kapoor had said in a statement, "We want Ayushmann Khurrana's character to look perfect as Pooja in Dream Girl 2, and that's why we are taking extra time to perfect the VFX work for the face. We want to ensure that our viewers get the best possible experience when they watch the movie. The VFX work for Dream Girl 2 is an integral part of the movie, and we want to ensure that we deliver a high-quality product to our audiences." The film was scheduled to hit the screens on July 7, but it will now release on August 25, 2023.

Brahmastra Part One: Shiva

Ayan Mukerji first conceived the idea of 'Brahmastra' back in 2012, with the development beginning in 2014. Over the years multiple international technicians have been associated to work on the VFX of the trilogy. The film from the very start was very VFX heavy and that was one of the main reasons for the film's delay. The film was to release during Christmas in 2019 but Ayan explained the delay in a social that read, “In the past week, I have learnt all the teams working on the movie, led by my VFX teams, need more time in order to get the VFX right, to get the sound right and eventually the movie right. With that in mind, we are moving away from Christmas 2019 release as our goal for the release of the movie. Working towards the goal that could affect the most important goal- which is to create the best possible movie experience that 'Brahmastra' can be. Our release is now slated for Summer 2020 but we will announce this officially once we are officially certain of the date." The film was further delayed due to the pandemic and 'Brahmastra' finally released in 2022.

2.0

Shankar’s magnum opus '2.0', which was a sequel to 'Robot' starring Superstar Rajinikanth, also became a victim of VFX delays. Shooting for '2.0' began in 2015 and the film was initially scheduled to release during Diwali 2017. But six months before the release, it was announced that '2.0' will hit the screens in January 2018, as the makers wanted time for better incorporation of visual effects. And from there it was pushed to April further. The film had about 1000 VFX shots in the film. In fact, it was reported that a sole US company had undertaken the task to deliver all 1000 shots but they failed and then the makers had to slice out 100 shots to 10 different companies to get the work done. '2.0' finally released in November 2018.

Laal Singh Chaddha

Christmas and Aamir Khan are an unbeatable combinations with his films like 'PK', '3 Idiots' and 'Dhoom 3' becoming major hits. However, his last film, 'Laal Singh Chaddha' was also supposed to have a Christmas 2021 release, which was later moved to Valentine's Day 2022. When the film was initially delayed, there was buzz that VFX woes were behind it. And a few months before the release of 'Laal Singh Chaddha', Aamir confirmed that he didn't want a rushed job on the visual effects, so he decided to delay the film. 'Laal Singh Chaddha' finally hit the screens during Raksha Bandhan, in August 2022.

Bawaal

​Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer 'Bawaal' has also been delayed due to visual effects. This Nitish Tiwari directorial was to hit the screens April 2023, but it has now been pushed to October 2023. The film has been shot across Europe using specialized technology and the makers want to deliver an ambitious onscreen presentation. The director recently revealed that visual finesse is taking more time than expected. He also added that they don’t want to cut short anything, which is why they are ready to delay the movie,.
